Most of our Nucleus® Cochlear Implant recipients start their journey by reaching out to someone who has had a similar experience with hearing loss and cochlear implant treatment options. It’s often a great benefit to learn from someone who understands and has been through this same experience and our Volunteers are here to help.
Cochlear Volunteers offer support and impartial information to individuals, parents and their families from the process of assessment and implantation, all the way through to rehabilitation and beyond. Answering questions, dispelling myths and allaying fears. Helping individuals to have a better understanding of the implant process and complementing the role of professionals. All our volunteers attend workshops, are of all ages and from a range and backgrounds that reflect the community they work within.

As well as support from family and friends, I think it's vital for implant recipients to receive help and advice from people who've been in the same situation. This is why I decided to become a Volunteer; to offer help when and where it's needed. Whether it's reassurance about surgery or stories of my personal achievements, I aim to support.
