On August 5th the day had finally arrived – I started school!
After going to bed very early for a week to make the next day arrive faster and the time till my first day at school shorter, I could hardly believe that the big day had really arrived. In the morning, we had a relaxed breakfast (or, at least, Mum tried to get me to relax) and once she had convinced me that I needed to wear a shirt, even on my big day, and Granny and Grandpa had arrived, I was presented with my traditional “school cone”, filled with sweets. And I have to say that Mum really outdid herself because nobody had a cone as cool as mine.
At school, we were all welcomed by the headmistress and the second-grade pupils sang for us and put on a funny play. For our first class, each kid was called up alphabetically and, because my surname starts with “V” and that’s near the end of the alphabet, I had to wait a long time before I was my turn to carry my satchel to the front. When I finally heard my name, I jumped out and shouted “yeah” because I was so happy. All the others laughed out loud at me, but I didn’t care, because I belonged.
You probably wonder what this big green cone is for? In Germany it is common to give the child a school cone for this event filled with sweets and maybe also some useful school accessories 🙂
Then, back home, we ate a delicious cake in the garden and we went out to dinner with lots of friends and my super family.
I will never forget this day and I am very happy that I can hear everything thanks to my CIs.
