You may remember from the last issue of Cochlear Family News, that a group of courageous Cochlear UK & Ireland colleagues were about to embark upon the National Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Hearing Dogs for Deaf People improve the lives of deaf adults and children across the UK, by training and supporting puppies to become the ears for their partners.
Considered one of Britain’s toughest challenges, the challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales in 24 hours. On the 24th and 25th of June this year, hiking in conditions that ranged from 28C and sunny to snow covered mountain tops, the team successfully walked a total of 27.9 miles and climbed 9,9992 feet to complete the challenge with only a few minor injuries sustained along the way.
From an initial target of £250, our team raised a fantastic £1,300 through friends, family and colleagues and, with Cochlear matching that amount, takes the total amount raised to an even more amazing £2,600.
We are very proud of our colleagues who spent much of their free time through winter and spring preparing for this ambitious event, and for the amount they raised that will help train the next generation of hearing dogs who will change the lives of deaf adults and children.
