Wearing your sound processor for prolonged periods every day exposes it to perspiration and natural oils. So, what can you do to look after your sound processor and maximise its performance and even lengthen its life?
Simple … use your sound processor’s drying unit!
The drying unit acts as a dehumidifier, protecting your sound processor from the damaging effects of moisture. Using it daily to dehumidify your sound processor can help lengthen your processor’s lifespan and decrease the need for repairs. And that helps keep you on air.
Getting started
- There are different types of dehumidifiers but, in general, they are either electronic or non-electronic. Depending on your Cochlear™ Sound Processor model, your processor may be compatible with one or the other – or both.
- Don’t use just any dehumidifier or you risk damaging your sound processor. Cochlear makes sure to note sound processor compatibility (see below) so that you can find the most suitable option to keep your sound processor dry, safe and in good condition.
- Always turn your processor OFF before placing it inside any dehumidifier overnight.
Here’s a guide to available dehumidifiers you can use with your Cochlear products.
Everyday Case + drying capsules (non electronic)
Compatible with: Nucleus® 6 and Nucleus® 5 sound processors.
The Everyday Case doesn’t just keep your processor safe while you’re not wearing it, it also keeps it dry. Just insert a drying capsule into the round slot and that’s it.
Breeze by Dry & Store (electronic)
Compatible with: Nucleus and Baha® sound processors (except the Nucleus Kanso® 2 Sound Processor).
The Breeze by Dry & Store is a drying unit that gently circulates warm, dry air around your Nucleus or Baha sound processor.
- Use the Breeze kit with a disposable Dry-Brik desiccant. The desiccant lowers the humidity and captures the moisture released during the drying cycle.
- Breeze’s larger size makes it ideal for bilateral recipients; you can place two sound processors in the unit.
- If you are using disposable batteries, store the processor fully assembled. For optimal drying effect, store your sound processor fully assembled for eight hours.
- If you are using a rechargeable battery, remove the battery module and recharge if necessary. Leave the coil attached to the processing unit and store in the Breeze kit.
- Remember to replace the moisture absorbing Dry-Brik in your Breeze kit every two months. Write the date you started using it on the indicator on the top side of the brick to keep track.
Zephyr by Dry & Store (electronic)
Compatible with: Nucleus 7, Nucleus 6, Nucleus 5 and Kanso sound processors and all Baha sound processors.
Store your sound processor in the Zephyr dehumidifier when not using it or overnight, every night, to help remove moisture.
- Replace the Dry & Store desiccant bricks inside the Zephyr dehumidifier every two months.
- The Zephyr dehumidifier automatically turns off eight hours after you’ve pressed the ON button.
(Hint: After swimming, place the Aqua+ sleeve and coil inside the dehumidifier to make sure they are completely dry before your next swim.)
Cochlear Home Charger (electronic)
Compatible with: Kanso 2 Sound Processor
The Cochlear Home Charger is an all-in-one device that will store, dry and charge your Kanso 2 Sound Processor at the same time, so there’s no need for separate drying equipment.
Store the fully assembled processor overnight for optimal drying effect. To fully charge a depleted sound processor takes approximately 4½ hours.
