We are excited to let our Cochlear Family know that Nucleus® 7 is launched!
At the CI2017 Paediatric Symposium in San Francisco, USA, Cochlear introduced Nucleus® 7, the world’s first and only Made for iPhone cochlear implant sound processor. This announcement caused quite a stir amongst the physicians, audiologists, speech pathologists, educators, hearing scientists, and members of industry who attended the three-day symposium, as it reinforced Cochlear’s standing as global leader in implantable hearing solutions.
Cochlear’s Senior Vice President Research & Development, Jan Janssen, was in great demand for interviews, with journalists keen to report this new technology, including how this comfortable and unobtrusive behind-the-ear CI sound processor can stream sound directly from an iPhone.
“We have been working on this for more than 10 years,” said Janssen, describing how Cochlear began discussions with Apple a decade ago. “Apple is quite forward-thinking about accessibility and had already made progress on iPhone compatibility with hearing aids. As two highly innovative companies, we were ideally suited to work collaboratively on this.”
“Apple has been the most advanced in their industry, just as Cochlear leads the industry for hearing implants; so it’s no surprise that the first successful offer is one developed by Cochlear and Apple working together.”
As you might expect, there’s a lot to discover about Nucleus 7. Amongst other things, the sound processor is smaller and lighter than any other but still boasts up to 50% longer battery life than even Nucleus 6. With the Nucleus SmartApp you can take control of your hearing, adjust settings across a range of environments and track your hearing. And, in response to feedback we’ve added the ability to locate a lost sound processor.
