Helping you choose your next sound processor

If you’re eligible for an upgrade, which sound processor is right for you? Read what some of our recipients say.

Do you like to wear your sound processor behind-the-ear? Or do you prefer an off-the ear device? Whichever you choose, there are some standout benefits to Cochlear’s latest technology over older sound processors. Here are six reasons to consider the CochlearTM Nucleus® 7 or new Cochlear Nucleus Kanso® 2 Sound Processors.

Get clearer sound in challenging environments

In addition to dual microphones and SmartSound®iQ with SCAN, a new feature for Nucleus 7 and Kanso 2 named ForwardFocus* helps you experience clearer sound1-5, even in noisy environments. Simply switch on ForwardFocus through the Nucleus® Smart App** to decrease noise coming from behind you so you can better hear the person in front of you.5

‘It does help in my meetings. It helps in a restaurant setting,’ says recipient, Jack, about using ForwardFocus with his Nucleus 7 Sound Processor. ‘It cuts the background noise from around you so you’re focusing on what’s right in front of you. So that’s a pretty neat feature.’

Make phone calls with confidence

Nucleus 6 Sound Processor recipient, Alana doesn’t always feel confident using the phone: ‘If you’re on the go, or at the grocery store running errands, you’re not always going to have the accessories (like the Phone Clip) with you or the ability to adjust them for an unexpected phone call.’

By upgrading to the Nucleus 7 or Kanso 2 sound processors, Alana would be able to answer and make calls with the audio streamed directly to her device, via a compatible smartphone**, without the aid of external accessories.

For Kathleen, who streams calls directly to her Nucleus 7 Sound Processor, this represents ‘true independence.’

‘I could talk on the phone and not have any extra devices on me, and it’s called freedom,’ Kathleen says.

Smartphone audio can be streamed directly to Nucleus 7 or Kanso 2

Enjoy music and entertainment with direct streaming

Enjoy your favourite entertainment, podcasts, music and even GPS directions with audio streamed directly from your compatible Apple or AndroidTM smartphone** to your Nucleus 7 or Kanso 2 Sound Processor.

‘What I really love is listening to music again and, because I can stream it direct from my iPhone, I can just have my phone in my pocket… doing chores… in the garden and it’s just so much easier,’ says Diane about direct streaming from her Nucleus 7 Sound Processor.

Control your sound processor from an app

The Nucleus Smart App allows you to control your device’s settings, functions and information directly from a compatible Apple or AndroidTM device. You can also personalise your hearing goals with the Hearing Tracker and, for added peace of mind, the app can help you locate a misplaced sound processor – great for active little ones!

Lead an active lifestyle

Carly runs and practises yoga most days and, in the winter, you’ll find her snowboarding in the Colorado mountains.

‘I would recommend to people, especially active people, that maybe [an off-the-ear sound processor] makes sense for them,’ says Carly.

When you’re on the field, at the gym or in the playground, there are a range of accessories to help you adventure-proof your device. Keep your little one’s Nucleus 7 Sound Processor in place with a paediatric headband, Koala Clip or Hugfit™. For more vigorous activities, there is a range of comfortable retention options including a headband, hair and clothing clips for your Kanso 2 Sound Processor.

Both the Nucleus 7 and Kanso 2 Sound Processors are splash-proof (Certified IP57 rating for Nucleus 7 and IP68 for Kanso 2). Worn with Aqua+, they become waterproof with the highest ratings available (IP68), so you can surf, snorkel or swim in salt, fresh and chlorinated water.

Benefit from comfort and discretion

Small and light, the Kanso 2 Sound Processor is designed to be discreet and so comfortable you’ll barely notice you’re wearing it.

‘I tend to wear caps a lot. I usually always have sunglasses on or glasses,’ says Sheiladawn. ‘Having the Kanso on my head and off the ear is a very relaxing and comfortable feeling.’

If you prefer behind-the-ear devices, the light-weight design of the Nucleus 7 Sound Processor, which is 24% lighter than the Nucleus 6 Sound Processor, could be for you.
